00:00Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals, and feel insanely confident. And the only way we can do that is if you rate, review, and share this podcast. So the single thing I ask for you to do is if you could leave a review. It will take you 10 seconds, and it will mean the absolute world to me and may change the world of someone else. Motivation, you can't rely on it to get things done. It always runs out. It always does. It's an emotion, right? And emotions ebb and flow.

00:38Yo, what is going on, you guys? Welcome back to The WarriorBabe Show with Nikkie Stott, co-founder of WarriorBabe. And on this podcast, we talk about mindset, methodologies, and tactics that will help you lose body fat, build muscle, be strong, and feel insanely confident. I am your host, Nikkie Stott, and welcome to today's episode, episode 113, where we're going to have a real talk about motivation. Okay, so this is stemming on a couple of fronts, and this is more so going to be like a rant, because I feel like rants are really good when we're on this topic.

01:15But this is stemming from like, you know, the New Year's coming around the corner, and maybe you guys are lacking motivation because of the holidays, or this is like busy season, and like, you know, you put a back burner with going to the gym or your nutrition, and you're like, you're just searching for the motivation to get started again. This will help you. Or this is also stemming from a conversation within our coaching team, and I support our coaches on a regular basis. And there's been a couple comments about clients needing motivation or looking for motivation, and they're kind of seeking that from our coaches,

01:51which I totally understand, like coaches, a part of their job is to give motivation to our clients. However, it's a two-way street, okay? It can't be 100% coming from the coach. It has to be like 50% coming from the coach, and then 50% coming from you if you are inside of our programs. This is also stemming from, you know, if in the last couple weeks, like I just mentioned, like not just looking out to 2024 and looking for motivation, but like in the last couple of months or the last couple of weeks, you guys are like, oh my god, I'm just not motivated to do all the things that I know that I need to do,

02:26and I'm like waiting for motivation to come back again. This podcast is for you. So this is what we're going to talk about. I'm just going to go on a rant. I'm just speaking from my heart, and I just want you guys to, you know, take away knowing that motivation isn't, you can't rely on it to get things done. Like you cannot rely on waiting, like hoping that motivation is going to come about, right? Motivation, it runs out. You can feel motivated to start a program. You can feel motivated to, you know, go and get a workout in, you know, the first time, the first week or the first two weeks that you agree to start something.

03:03However, it always runs out. It always does. It is an emotion, right? And emotions ebb and flow. So you can't, you can't wait for more motivation to come again, right? Because this is where a lot of people give up, and they forget why they started the program because they're like, oh, I'm just not motivated to wake up in the morning to get this workout done. I'm just not motivated to eat my, eat the right foods. Or like, I'm just not motivated to plan ahead. Or, you know, you let planning ahead slip through the cracks because other things seem more important.

03:36By the way, there's nothing more important than your own health. And, like, getting these, these things in place for yourself. Like, a consistent workout routine. Like, consistently following through on nutrition. Like, consistently doing all the things that not only are going to get you to a more aesthetic goal, but also the underlying foundation of, like, making your overall health better for the longevity of your life. So, here's a way to get around that. Here's a way to, you know, not look at, like, I need more motivation, or I'm waiting for motivation to come back.

04:12Or, like, you know, 95% of the time, you're just, like, looking at motivation as, like, the thing that is in the way. The way to get around that is you need to develop your self-discipline muscle. You need to rely on discipline. And I'm going to get in this in a second. There's some things that come with developing your self-discipline muscle. But you need to begin to rely on discipline and not on motivation. Because you aren't always going to be motivated all of the time.

04:44But the discipline that you do develop for, like, think of, like, for me, for instance. Like, I am not always motivated to go into the gym and to work out and to put myself through, you know, a grueling routine. Like, on a regular basis, I am not always motivated to do that. I am not always motivated to, you know, sit down and pull out yogurt and peanut butter and a banana and put it into a bowl. Like, sometimes I just want ice cream and I want Oreos and I want to, like, stuff my face for it.

05:19So I'm not always motivated to eat healthy things. However, I am one hell of a disciplined person. And I know that going to work out is going to make me feel better and it's going to fuel, you know, the muscle-centric process that I believe in and helping me lead a healthy life. I know that the banana yogurt and peanut butter is a much better option for me physically and mentally than, you know, stuffing myself with ice cream and Oreos.

05:52Like, I know I am more disciplined to control how I feel and overcome, like, a sense of weakness if I'm going to be direct and blunt, right? Like, a sense of weakness is, like, not going to do what you know you need to do despite your, like, or because your feelings are controlling the situation, right? When you're not, when you don't go work out because you don't feel like it, you're letting your emotions control that.

06:24And it's a, it's like a, I, to be direct, like, I look at it as a, as a, as a sense of weakness. It's like, okay, what, instead I can go do this thing that's going to make me feel way better. It's going to make me stronger. It's going to make me more confident because I just followed through on doing something I didn't want to do and I did it anyway. And it's the better of the two, right? And same thing goes with, like, ice cream Oreos. And while I will have those, I won't, like, you know what I'm saying?

06:59Like, I, I will, in moderation, allow myself to have that. But some, like, to a lot of people, they may make the choice of going to fast food or skipping their meals or, you know, eating something that is a little bit more fast or claiming that people are healthy. However, when you actually dial back and get down to the numbers and data, you're not eating enough, right? So it's like, I will control my feelings even though I want to have this or I want to do this. This is a better option because it serves me and the future self that I, I am working on or that I want to become, right?

07:39It's the ability to pursue what you think is right despite the temptations to abandon it. Is that making sense? Right? So it's like the ability to, like, yeah, you don't feel like working out. However, you know, you, you have to work out in order to, to facilitate the results that you want. You can't not work out and build muscle. Okay? You can't not work, you can't not eat healthy and lose weight.

08:09Okay, is that making sense? Like, so it's the ability to control. Okay, even though I don't want to do this, I'm going to do this and I'm going to do what you know is right for your future self despite, despite the feelings to abandon it. Hey, hey, just want to drop a huge appreciation to you guys listening to the show. It means a lot. I hope you guys are enjoying it and there's so much more to come with it. If you are enjoying it, hit the subscribe button. I'd appreciate that tons. And also it would help this podcast reach others who need to hear these messages too.

08:44Let's dive in a little bit deeper because I want to get down to like, for those of you guys that are looking for motivation or you're hoping to seek motivation from somebody else. However, you are the person that has to do the work. So I want to help you like approach motivation, like I said, a little bit differently. And instead of looking at motivation, you want to build self-discipline. However, the way to build self-discipline is to do these things I'm going to walk through right now. Number one, you have to set realistic expectations for yourself.

09:17So let's talk about what you can realistically commit to in terms of your fitness and your nutrition goals. And it's important to set like an achievable target that you know that you can hit to avoid feeling overwhelmed. So like for me personally, for what I do with my clients is I will, I've told them right now, 2024 is around the corner. So what I need you to do by December 29th of this year is to give me your 2024 goals and what you and I are to work on together.

09:53Because it is a two-way street is a partnership when it comes to coaching. And from there, what I do is I will break down, I'll work backwards from their goals given where they are at right now. So for example, let's say that they want to go into like majority of my clients are maintenance. Let's just entertain that they want to go into a little bit of a mini cut. Cool.

10:23Then I'm going to work backwards from that. I've allowed my clients to have a little bit more flexibility when it comes to maintaining. And so they're therefore not, they're either tracking intuitively, eating intuitively, and or not like, they're like 90% on their workouts. And so I will work backwards from, okay, we're going to go into a mini cut. Well, we got to start tracking. And this is what, this start date is when we're going to start. This is what I would expect in this X timeframe. And this is what I'm going to help you achieve these set targets in X amount of time.

10:56And then I'm going to continue to work backwards throughout the year. So you got to set realistic expectations for yourself. And then number two, consistency. Consistency is the key to seeing results. Even small, regular efforts on a daily basis are more effective than sporadic. Planning your meals, following through on your macros, you know, going to do your workouts three times this week. And then, you know, you hit one week, one time next week.

11:27And then you hit two the following week. And then you finally hit the three and four that you're supposed to be doing the fourth week. It's like, dude, you got to consistently follow through. Consistency, if you want to see results, is the way to achieve results. You can't expect to eat healthy right within your targets for five out of seven days of the week. And then on the weekends, you go haywire and decide to just go completely off kilter.

11:57And then you do that for three to four weeks on the weekends. And you're like, why am I not seeing results? Why do you think you're not seeing results? Come on, you got to be real with yourself here. You got to apply consistency and you got to do it. Like, look at it like small wins every single day because they will add up. Okay, so how this I would ask you, how can you make your routine more consistent? The third one is personal responsibility and effort, right?

12:28While I, myself, the coaches, we can provide you support, we can provide you guidance. The real change, listen up, the real change happens through your own efforts. So my question to you would be, if this is what you're struggling with or you're struggling with motivation, you're struggling with like putting these things into place and you're struggling with like, oh, but I want to rely on this person to give me the motivation. First of all, you're just setting yourself up for doomsday. That's not the way it works. You got to take personal responsibility. You got to take extreme ownership and you have to apply the things that will create the real change to happen for you.

13:03So my question would be, what do you think is holding you back from putting in the necessary work? Okay, then the next thing would be, okay, now that we've rumored it on this question, let's identify these barriers. Let's identify these obstacles that are preventing you from sticking to the program, right? Are there specific challenges that you're faced with that maybe you haven't addressed? Is there something in a life situation or a friend or somebody that isn't supporting along the way?

13:33And so this narrative is in your brain. And so it's stopping you from taking the action and stopping you from feeling motivated. And so let's address this and let's talk about this. I'm here to support you on it. Remember that, you know, people's opinions aren't necessarily reflective on what you want. You're the only one that knows what you want. So you have to hold that vision in your brain of what you want. And you got to make sure that you eliminate the negative naysayers, negative nancies, and still follow through on what you want, right? So, or is it that you're looking at your workout program and you find that there's exercises in there that maybe you don't have this piece of equipment to follow through on doing those exercises?

14:17And so now, and you're like, well, I don't know what to swap in place. And so you're like, well, you know, screw it. I can't do this workout. And like you haven't communicated that with your coach to, hey, what's a swap? Or can you help me out with like an alternative exercise to X, Y, and Z? Communication. I talked about this in episode 51 of the benefits of having a coach. I talked about it there that communication is so freaking important, you guys, because I always joke around with like my team and like my clients.

14:48I'm like, I am not a mind reader. I will try and be a couple steps ahead of you. But hey, I'm human and I mess up. So please communicate anything that you need to communicate with me to make this like 100% effective for you. 15:56That's warriorbabe.com forward slash apply. All right, let's get back to the show. Okay, so that would be identifying obstacles. Make sure you're communicating those things because that's what coaches are really good for, right? That's what and that if you're somebody that's like, hey, 2024 is around the corner and all the other like things I talked about at the beginning of the podcast that you may be struggling with in terms of motivation. You don't have a coach. A coach is such a good thing to invest in for yourself so that you aren't doing this alone, okay?

16:31And making sure that you're then following through on all the things I'm saying when you are working with a coach. The other one is, and most importantly, you guys, this one, I need to like yell from the rooftops. Because like I said earlier, you guys that rely on motivation, like how and how it ebbs and flows, you can't consistently rely on it because it will go in and out. This is the way that you can make it stick second to developing self-discipline, but this is the way you make it stick.

17:05Motivation comes from action. Motivation comes from action. Motivation comes from action. Okay, so often motivation follows action rather than the other way around. So sometimes, right, like starting something can be the hardest part, but once you begin it, you'll likely find more motivation to keep going.

17:40Or you feel motivated at the beginning and it feels super easy to start something. However, that's just motivation. You can't rely on it because three to four weeks, it's going to dip. And so you need to be reminded of why you started this journey. I will always ask clients to be like, well, why are you doing this, right? Because like people call me, Nikki, I need to lose weight. Nikki, I want to be fit. Nikki, I want to like X, Y, and Z. They'll come to the coaches. They'll do the same thing. And I'm like, cool.

18:10I love that. That's like, you know, the superficial top of the iceberg layer here. But like, why do you want to start this fitness journey? And I've talked about why in many episodes of this podcast. And like, until you can narrow it down, like this is a great goal. I'm all here for that, right? But like, why, right? And like, is it because you want to be a role model for your kids? Is it because you want to be a higher performer in your profession of work?

18:43Is it because, you know, maybe the sex with the partner has dipped and you want to bring that back up? You want to feel more confident in your skin. Like, what is the reason why? What's a deeper reason why? Like, I love to connect with humans on the deeper reason why they want to do their journey because I'm going to be able to always circle back to that and be like, hey, Karen, you told me like, when we first started out in the shardings together that like, yeah, you wanted to do

19:16these cool, like lose weight and feel better and be more toned. But like, you also told me that you have two little kids looking at you on a daily basis and you want to be a role model for them because when the way you grow up, you know, you told me that your mom was a heavy dieter and you just watched her like be worried all the time about food and like, you don't want your kiddos to be there. And then like, dude, like if there ain't nothing more than that to kick you in the ass to get started on something that I don't know.

19:47I don't know what it like then then we need to like maybe we need to like fly to your front door and like literally push you out of the door to go and do the thing that you need to do. But like, this is where I get really big on like you need to take extreme ownership for you, your life and the things that you want to accomplish because we'll be there to push you to do the things we'll put the plan in action will tell you what you have to do. But like literally what I've already mentioned is like motivation comes with action and then you have to put the personal work change only happens through your own work through your

20:23own efforts. So once you start doing things, so like I said, it's like once you start following through, you start taking the action, you start feeling really good, you start putting in the work, you're doing it consistently, like motivation comes with doing that. Motivation comes with that action. And then the last thing that I want to say is along your journey, you need to be celebrating the small wins. Because I think that everybody, at least I know this from the thousands of women that I've

20:59worked, they've come through our program, worked with and that have come through our program is they're so attached to the end goal. And they're so attached to like, like wanting to lose maybe the 50 pounds they've put on over the last seven years. And they're wanting to lose that in like three to four weeks. And when they don't get to the four week mark, and they're seeing significant change, they almost give up. And they're forgetting like, oh, wow, along those four weeks, I've done so many things

21:29different than what I've been doing for the last seven years. And like, you almost got to get realistic with yourself one in that situation be like, okay, well, I put on 50 pounds over the course of seven years. So like, I'm not going to lose it in four weeks. And then two, it's like, cool, I gotta celebrate these small wins. Like you got to remember and acknowledge and to celebrate your small victories along the way. Or else you're going to give up. And like, you're going to be you're going to let that end goal be so engulfed. Like you're going to allow yourself to be attached so much that end goal.

22:00And like, if you don't get there in a precise amount of time, or it's not exactly how you thought it would be, then you're it's going to feel like you're you're going to think you're a failure in that sense. And you're going to want to give up and you're never you're going to approach every single time you want to get fit again in that same manner. So like, okay, in those four weeks, what is it? You've obviously been doing something different than what you've been doing for the last seven years. And maybe you've lost four or five pounds. That's great. That's a pound a week. Right. And then like, you're obviously in order to get that kind of result, you're putting some

22:33different things into place. What are you eating better? You throw out things from your house. You're getting your workouts in your sleeping better. You have more energy like those are small wins that you need to pay attention to. So in all in all of all the things that I just shared with you guys, right, this. This is how motivation, I guess, to compass at all, it's like, you obviously can't look for motivation or seek motivation out to be the to be something that you're going to experience

23:07all throughout your entire journey that isn't always going to be there. And in order to, you know, successfully follow through with a plan or by working with somebody or in the new year of 2024, you have to take action. You have to set realistic expectations for yourself or if you're working with somebody for your with yourself and your coach. You have to follow through on what that plan is in a consistent way.

23:38Okay, not like two out of the seven days of the week, I'm going to eat right and then the rest of five days, I'm going to eat off kilter. And then like in four weeks, I'm going to complain because I'm not seeing the results. It's like you got to follow through consistently in order to get the results that you want. And then you have to take personal responsibility of your efforts and you have to take personal responsibility of, you know, doing the work. And if there is something that is holding you back, okay, what's holding you back? Let's identify that. Let's talk out loud about it.

24:09And let's be solution oriented to create a plan that's going to help you follow through. And then know that motivation comes with action. And then along the way, you have to celebrate your wins. Because if you don't, this is where definitely motivation will ebb. It will be lost. If like you're not seeing where you want to be and you rely on like the result aspect to be motivating, you have to celebrate, hey, wow, I feel way better. I have like more energy. I'm sleeping better.

24:40My mood is better. I'm nicer to people. I'm eating more and I'm feeling amazing. Like you can't be, you can't allow your goals to fully immerse you because it may not be the timeline that you're expecting to achieve the results. Point blank. All right. So I hope that helped you if you're struggling in the world of motivation. I hope that helped you at least take some tangible things from this podcast and put into action. And I promise you, if you do that, if you take what I'm sharing with you today and you,

25:12first of all, get honest with yourself and then you write down, okay, this is my plan. This is my goal. And then you work backwards from it and you take responsibility, put the effort in and you start doing the actions. You're going to gain motivation. Okay. But the most important thing around that is like, is to really develop that self-discipline muscle that I talked about at the beginning of the podcast, because in order to achieve long-term results, you all, you're like, I keep saying you always, you won't always be motivated, but if like you can develop, okay, even though I don't feel like doing this today,

25:46I'm going to do it regardless. If you can develop that mentality, then that's going to literally be your key to success. So develop that self-discipline muscle, my friends, and I'll see you in the next episode. Peace out. Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals, and feel insanely confident. And the only way we can do that is if you rate, review, and share this podcast. So the single thing I ask for you to do is if you could leave a review, it will take you

26:1910 seconds and it will mean the absolute world to me and may change the world of someone else.
