00:00I was in a marriage that I never should have been in right before starting the program and extremely depressed, wasn't moving, wasn't eating well. I was in a bad spot before starting this and could not get out of bed, didn't care about anything. What would you say about working with Coach Annie? Like how is someone being there to guide you, to hold you accountable? What does that look like for you along your way? She has been unbelievable. This program completely saved my life, I think, truly. What would you say are some of your biggest top achievements that you've had since joining WarriorBabe?
00:34I'm most proud of making myself a priority, first of all. Making sure that I had time to get in strength training. That makes me feel so good, strong in both mind and body. With all of that, depression is not as bad. What's going on, everybody? Hey, you guys. Today, I have another WarriorBabe here with us. WarriorBabe Angie. Before she found WarriorBabe, Angie knew what it took to be healthy, but after years of putting herself on the back burner, she reached a point where she barely even recognized herself.
01:12I'm sure that a lot of you guys are going to be able to hear yourself and her story today. She wasn't moving. She wasn't feeling her body appropriately and she knew something had to change. Then WarriorBabe gave her that kind of accountability to show up for herself again. Today, she's going to share that story with us. I was just telling her right before we hit record that her before and afters are just insane. I'm sure we'll plug that photo here for you guys to see as well. Angie, welcome. Welcome to the... Hi, thank you. Thank you.
01:42Yeah. So excited to be here. Thank you. Yeah, likewise. Excited to have you here. Excited to just talk through this story because, you know, again, seeing where you were and hearing where you were to where you are now, it's like, it's really cool to see you on the other side. I am shocked myself, quite honestly. It's been amazing. That's awesome. So let's talk about where you were before you found WarriorBabe, a little bit more like fleshed out. Um, so I had previously, I'm 47 years old. I had previously worked out in my 20s to my 30s,
02:15cardio queen, as they would call them. So not really a muscle builder. And then before founding WarriorBabe, I was 10 years out of a routine workout practice. I became a nurse and then a nurse practitioner and I'm a single mom and just all of me fell to the wayside. My mom unexpectedly passed away in October of 22. And my dad has had Parkinson's for over 30 years. And I'm the oldest of four girls. It's been a challenge to take care of him since she passed.
02:48And in the last four years, completely just dumped myself. I was in a marriage that I never should have been in right before starting the program and extremely depressed. Um, wasn't moving, uh, wasn't eating well. I wasn't overweight necessarily by BMI, but body composition was not where I wanted it to be. And I was just in a funk. Yeah. You were averaging how many steps a day?
03:19Oh, 1300, maybe. And then how many grams of protein were you eating in a day? 80, maybe. And it's crazy too, because your background, right? Specifically, you're an NP. Yes. In, yes. Go ahead and elaborate. In, um, I do medical weight loss, medically supervised weight loss, and it's a protein predominant program. Cardiology, my background and hormone replacement therapy. So I know all about it and yet was not helping myself at all. I couldn't, I, it just wasn't working for me.
03:53Did it seem like, cause with all that knowledge that you have around that specifically, did it make it even more frustrating when you found yourself like struggling to implement it for yourself in your own life? Yes. Yes. I teach it all day long, help so many patients and, um, know what I was supposed to do. Never needed accountability when I did it 10 years ago with working out and stuff. Um, but just was in a place in my mind that I could not get it together for myself.
04:24Yeah. You mentioned like that pretty, I would say dark place, you know, depression is heavy to man is heavy to hold. Very much so. And you stopped caring about yourself in a lot of ways. What can you just like, can I know that there's a lot of women that are in that same boat and I appreciate you even bringing it up and being vulnerable to share that journey, but it could help another woman feel seen and heard. What was that experience like for you? I'm very open about my depression. I've had it for, since I was 19, um, you know, ebbs and flows,
04:56but I was in a bad spot, um, before starting this and could not get out of bed. Didn't care about anything. I, again, as I said, I'm a single mom. She was 14 at the time before starting and, um, wasn't a role model of didn't, I didn't feel like a role model of what I should be for her. Um, but again, the, the will and the drive and the discipline I didn't have. So I'd feel guilty for not doing it, knowing what I needed to do. So it just became this ongoing cycle of,
05:26I feel like crap and I don't care that I do, but I do care and couldn't do anything about it. Yeah. It's a, it's a tough place to be. Yeah. That circle of things, constant circle. And as somebody who I feel like, you know, you had to lean on a lot of independence on yourself in that season of life and you never really had to have, like you, you were keeping, you were trying to do your best and keeping yourself accountable. Was it difficult then to maybe realize, Hey, like I need support? Yes. So, um, I, previous to joining Warrior Babe,
06:04I saw ads on my social media pop up constantly, probably for six, six to eight months prior, always would click just to look, um, always stepped back. Um, there were always something else that needed done. Someone else needed taken care of whatever, or thinking, no, I can do this. I I'm going to do this next week, next week, next week, next week, never came. So what was it that finally was like, okay, like I need to, what was the point that you realized that there wasn't, it wasn't about like, okay, you just need to take that step forward. Like you need
06:38to start prioritizing yourself again. What was that? Yeah. Where was that point? There was a definitive moment. I took my daughter to Daytona beach for spring break in April of 25. I felt like, and looked like mostly felt like garbage and also did not feel confident at all in myself. I don't think I took shorts off for my bathing suit at all. Um, it was the second to last day. Um, we were there and I opened Instagram and immediately Warrior Babe popped up and I clicked
07:09on it and sent in an application. It just like called to me sitting there. I was like, I've got to do something. I feel like I don't want to feel like this anymore and I can't do it by myself. And then the last day we were there, I had my intake and then scheduled. I think I got my, uh, scheduled with coach after that. And it's been the most amazing thing I've ever done for myself. Well, kudos to you for leaning into that, you know, it was tough at first. Yeah. Yeah. I've heard so many times on these, uh, interviews with babes
07:41that they saw it for six months to a year before they finally like clicked on it and like took action with it. So was there something also like you, there was obviously something about the day and obviously you were just like fed up and you wanted, you needed, you know, you needed the support at that point. Was there something that I was saying or that was in the video that was being said that was also very intriguing to you? Ladies, are you feeling frustrated with body changes you're experiencing during menopause?

All right, let's get back to the show. I love that it's women based. That is huge to promote strength and not skinny to promote eating. Like it's so much, of course, nowadays is, you know, all the medications and everything out there. And,
09:22and I don't want to be a stick thin. I want muscle and I want to be able to, you know, haul logs off when I'm trying to cut trees down in my backyard. I want to be muscular. And I love that you promote, like fat, eating fat is good for you. Like you have to have it. Um, and that was yelling to me, um, more food. I, I get, I know I was eating less calories than, than I am now, mainly protein,
09:53obviously, but I have completely changed my body composition and I'm eating way more than I ever was before. And it's, it is amazing. Yeah. I'm curious to, to, I'm going to pick your brain on like when you first started and we were going to get to like the results. I, I, I'm, I'm so curious too, because you were such an avid like runner beforehand and you were doing that and, you know, not eating enough then. So, uh, to have the body composition that you have now, again, insane transformation. And it wasn't like, you didn't lose a lot of weight, right? Like,
10:26and I didn't myself here. No, I was like right now I'm only, I'm nine pounds down from where I started. Yeah. But it's completely different body. Yeah. It's insane. I mean, I truly, it is. I used to be a numbers person on the scale. Like I have to weigh whatever. I mean, this was way back, you know, 20 years ago, but just from losing nine pounds, it's incredible what I've done. I am, I'm proud of myself. Yeah, girl. I don't say that. I don't
10:59say that a lot. It's hard sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. You should be really proud of yourself. That's an awesome. It's a small gesture that goes a long way in helping more women find their way to feeling stronger and more confident in their skin. I appreciate you so much for taking the time to support this show. So when you got into Warrior Bay, were you nervous about it? Like, were you about trying like something
11:34new, especially from coming to the world that we kind of just talked about? You were running, you weren't eating enough, but yet you had this, like you had the knowledge, you had the understanding of it. Was there any part of it that you were skeptical, nervous, anything at the start of your journey that made you feel that way? I think eating more fat, that was, and that was a struggle for me for a while, even into the program, getting to my grams of fat. I've always thought in my head, don't eat that much fat, but that is completely not the truth. And I wasn't ever skeptical of the
12:05program. I was very excited. I needed something to kick my butt into gear and the planning and the charting and my fitness palette was a little, at first I was like, how am I going to do all this measuring and all, you know, all this stuff. And then it just became habit. And it was like, just like brushing my teeth. And I love it. It's, it's just become part of life. Were there any like early aha moments once you started? The protein, two weeks in, I could feel depression lifting just from moving. I mean,
12:42a month in, I may, I think I lost a pound. I was, again, this wasn't a fast, I mean, I haven't lost that much weight in general, but I could see my body with pictures and measurements and that changing. And I was, I thought to myself, I'm eating more calories than I was eating before. And also before I'm not diabetic, but I had hypoglycemic episodes a lot. And I've had two in the last year and a half just based, I mean, obviously high protein and fats and, but I eat
13:17160 carbs a day, which works for me. It does obviously everyone's macros are different, but that, that works for me. And they're, you know, the types of carbs you're eating, obviously. So that was a big thing for me with my blood sugar not dropping. That's been remarkable. And perimenopausal symptoms as well have drastically decreased with eating this way and moving. That's amazing. Yeah. Perimenopausal carbs and the protein together will definitely help those
13:48insulin spikes. Yes. You have totally gotten ahead of menopause, you know, with, with. Oh, I got it. I hope so. Approaching it this way, getting strength training underway and building muscle. And yeah, that's really cool. Okay. Let's talk about the training. So you started eating more food coming in. You were noticing things happening within like the first week to two weeks, depression, lifting, moving more. What, what does your strength training like protocol look like or workout protocol look like from what you obviously were doing a lot of running, you said.
14:22So what changed in that realm? Once you came into warrior, babe, I don't do cardio. I mean, my cardio is walking. That's it. And it's beautiful. I tell everyone. I'm sure your joints and your knees and everything like that love you. I hate cardio. I, I've never loved it anyway, but I was like, you're supposed to do cardio. Um, and so anyone I meet women, especially over 40, I'm like, don't just walk, please. I don't need you
14:53to be doing sprints and, you know, hardcore 180 beats per minute heart rate cardio. That's not, that's not what's good for us at this point. Um, no, I walk only about a mile and a half. Annie actually told me, don't worry about my steps just because I was so focused on getting 10,000 steps. Um, I don't, sometimes I'll just in the living room drop and do some squats and pushups because that's what time I have in that moment. I don't lift heavy, heavy. I've never been, I've had a shoulder nerve injury that I'd opened a repair on.
15:30And so before this program, I couldn't hardly even lift it above right here. And then after this, I'm, I'm able to literally cut down my trees and, um, do things that I never was throwing, you know, throwing logs and stuff that I just never expected I would be doing at this age. But I'll, I'll switch upper body, push, pull, lower body, push, pull core. I do a lot. I never really heavy. I just have never been heavy lifter.
16:01What, uh, what, what would you say about working with Coach Annie? Like how is someone being there to guide you, to hold you accountable? What does that look like for you along your way? She has been unbelievable. This program, her completely saved my, my life. I think truly, um, I've told her that on multiple occasions, my mind was not in a good spot and, um, starting this program and with her help and everyone and all of her babes on, you know, our chat site, it's amazing how much women can come together and support each other through every stress that you could even imagine.
16:38Everyone's going through something at some point. Starting this program helped me get out of the marriage that I should never have been in and, uh, has helped me become a better mom. And Annie has done nothing but cheer me on. And as always there, if I need something, I think she's, she's been fabulous as a, a friend and, uh, a coach. That's amazing. I love to hear that you feel supported by the women in your community and you feel supported by the women in your group. Um, that is one thing that we hear a lot that because it is a woman based program that the fact that like,
17:15we all know the struggles that we, we all have struggles every single day. Um, and now women can lean on other women that are going through the same struggles when it comes to nutrition or fitness or health, or even just in general, like life situations. Um, so I think that's really cool that you have that. I love that. Yeah. Uh, any, there's no judgment. Yeah. No judgment at all. Exactly. Yeah. Love that. Yeah. And Annie is a great coach. Annie will, she has a soft spot for all her people. Um, and she will definitely be there for a great listening ear and even wise advice too, as well.
17:49So since joining, let's talk about some of the, I mean, we're kind of touching on each aspect, but what would you say are some of your biggest top achievements that you've had since, since joining Warrior Babe? I'm most proud of making myself a priority. First of all, it's always been hard for me, period. But especially in the last five years or so, it's been difficult, but it's also important. I've realized that as well. I'm actually going to pause you there. Yeah. Pause you there. Let's, how, tactically, how did you do that? Right. It's one thing a lot of women hear, okay, yeah, I made myself a priority, but like, what did
18:22that look like on a day-to-day basis for you that you would have to, because you're a single mom, you left a marriage, you had to show up for, you know, a lot of your work, her, how did you prioritize yourself in a day? Making sure I was, my meal, I knew what I was going to eat each meal. I knew prepping the meals. Um, again, making sure I put everything into my fitness pal so I knew what I was getting, getting in a day and knew what I had left to eat. Uh, making time for, to walk outside, even when it was negative 10. Like, I hate winter.
18:53Cannot stand it. And I put on every piece of clothing and made myself walk at least a mile outside in my neighborhood and came back and it's, it was great. And I'll do it again. Making sure that I had time to get in strength training. That makes me feel so good, strong in both mind and body. And then with all of that, depression is not as bad. And you're able to show up for people that you care about, show up for yourself, show up
19:25for my daughter. She sees now and she's kind of jumps in, uh, with workouts now. And then it just made me a happier person to eat for my body and my mind. Um, and also move and keep track of all that. And I like tracking stuff like that. So it was very easy for me to, to do so. That's awesome. That's so cool. I would definitely say that's a solid top achievement. Yes. Thank you. I think so. What other, maybe if you had to name two others, what would be two other ones that you had?
19:58Healing the shoulder and being able to increase what I never thought I'd be able to lift anything again with this shoulder. Um, I had complete atrophy of my entire scapula, completely all my muscle went away. So that when that injury occurred, that really set me back and was depressing. And then when I've been able to build it back up and, and, and now I'm able to do things that I didn't think I was going to do, this program helped me do that. I, I have more energy that I couldn't get before that has made a huge difference in every
20:30aspect of my life. Coming home from work and being with my daughter, I'd come home from work and be like, I got to lay down or I'm tired or whatever. I also volunteer as a nurse at an overnight camp every summer. Um, and so this past summer people like the, everyone there at camp was like, oh my God, what have you been doing? Um, so, and I, again, I only lost nine pounds. It wasn't anything that was like huge, but they could just tell, like I've been working on myself and just noticeably happier.
21:02That's, that's the cool thing about like your, it's not going to be the pounds loss. It's going to be the photo shown. So team better put, you know, your picture before and after up on this video and everybody that's listening to a potentially, maybe just the audio is going to have to find this video version because your transformation, it's not going to be. And I love that about your transformation specifically is it's not going to be noted by the number on the scale. It's going to be noted by your, your physique, your composition, then the muscle that you
21:33built, the body fat that you lost. Like that's, that's a really cool part about it. Yeah. Yeah. I'm excited. And then I would say also another one of your achievements was, I'm just going to speak for you, but it was that you were able to follow a plan consistently because it said that you weren't, you have 10 years that you weren't able to, for over 10 years. Yes. Now you've been following a plan. And I obviously, that was trying on my own and not, not trying really.
22:05But yes, I've been able to follow it and it's, it's changed my life completely in the best ways. And then you mentioned that your daughter is like asking to work out with you now. How else have you seen this positively impact her life? Like what has that meant? Also, what has that meant to have your daughter watch you become stronger and prioritize yourself again? So I've been a single mom way longer than this previous marriage, but she's been able to see me step out of a really dark place.
22:36And she know, I mean, she might not have been, you know, completely aware of what was happening, but get up off the couch and now I'm going to walk. Do you want to come with me? Yes. So now she'll walk with me. She gets out the workout mat at home and she's like, I'm going to do a workout. I'm like, okay, but you can't be in here. Okay. I'll let you do your workout. And she's commented on muscle that I built. And I'm like, exactly. Yes, we want to be strong. We don't, we're not looking for skinny because that's not healthy.
23:07And we want to be able to lift stuff and move stuff and not depend on a man. I just want her to see that, you know, I can take care of myself and so can she and step out of a comfort zone. Because that's really, I mean, you know, it became a habit of just sitting there doing nothing. I needed help and this was the help. Yeah. I think that's really cool. That part where you took the action. Yes. And she saw you take the action. Yes. She was sitting across the table. That's really cool. That's awesome. Yeah. So if you had to say something to your past self, maybe also somebody that's watching
23:44this right now that was maybe in the same place that you were once before, what would you say to that woman? You can always do something for yourself. Wherever your mind is at that moment isn't forever. Don't be afraid to ask for help. That was a problem for me for a while. Don't be ashamed that you need help. It was the greatest kickstart to my life, this program that I could have chosen. I had no idea how much it would change my life. Just taking that next step to do something for yourself, especially as women, is something
24:18that I know that we all struggle with and that the littlest step that you think might not be anything could be the biggest step of your entire life. It truly has been mine. That's awesome, Andy. Those are some good, wise words in every way that's listening to this. I think Angie's story is proof that sometimes knowing what to do isn't always enough. You truly have to believe that you're worth showing up for. Once Angie made what started as a decision to prioritize your health became a decision to
24:52choose yourself every single day. What I love too about your story, Angie, is that you are laying the foundation. You're creating the foundation for lasting health for those around you, which is a part of our mission statement for your daughter, for the people that are in your life. I would say to anybody that just heard Angie's story right now and they find yourself in the same boat that she was before, take that action step. Check out Warrior Babe. Get inside the program. Get a coach. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah.
25:22I mean, doing it alone is one thing. You heard Angie was very independent, but there was a point where she needed that help. And we all, if we can humbly say, you know, that we need help along the way, along the journey. So that's your reminder that you can find your way back to you. And Angie, I appreciate you sharing that story. I appreciate you opening up and being. Thank you. And I think it's really cool. Appreciate you. A year and a half, girl. Like you, you just, you got so much more time to keep changing that body, which is really cool. Yes. Thank you.
25:53Hey, really quick before you go, I have one small favor to ask. If this episode brought you value or sparked something in you, take just a moment to hit that review button.
