Losing Weight in Perimenopause at 51 by Eating More

Chapters

In this episode

At 51, Angela had spent 15 years in the fitness industry, taught up to 14 classes a week and ate what she considered a clean diet. She was still gaining weight, looked puffy, saw cellulite she had never had before, and was dealing with severe depression, anxiety and frightening thoughts she connected to perimenopause. She knew she wasn't ready to accept that this was just what 50 looks like, so she finally reached out to WarriorBabe.

In this conversation with Nikkiey Stott, Angela shares what changed: learning macros for the first time instead of following a meal plan blindly, eating an average of 400 to 500 more calories a day, logging every day in MyFitnessPal (even on Christmas Eve with 30 people), and cutting way back on classes so she could lift heavy three to four days a week and actually rest between sets. Nearly a year in, she has lost about 20 pounds, close to four inches off her hips and around three off her waist, and her muscles look full for the first time.

The biggest win, she says, is mental. The depression and anxiety are gone and she feels like herself again. Her advice for women chasing a 90-day fix is simple: trust the process, ask whether you could live this way for the rest of your life, and lean on coaching and accountability while you learn.

Key takeaways

  • Angela was exercising 12 to 13 times a week and still gaining weight, and she and her coach came to believe the constant training without recovery was behind much of her puffiness and inflammation.
  • Learning how macros work, rather than just following a coach's meal plan, is what Angela credits with changing her results, even though her food choices stayed much the same.
  • She now eats an average of 400 to 500 more calories a day than her old 1,200 to 1,600 range and lost about 20 pounds at 51 in perimenopause.
  • It took Angela about three to four weeks of logging to get comfortable with macros, and now she logs as the day goes and knows roughly where she will land.
  • She logs everything, good or bad, every day, including holidays, and the MyFitnessPal streak reminder keeps her consistent.
  • Swapping most of her classes for three, then four, days of heavy lifting and timing her rest between sets let her muscles rebuild and her strength go up.
  • Before starting anything, Angela suggests asking whether you could do it for the rest of your life, because if you can't, it isn't worth your time.
  • Coaching is a 50/50 partnership, so you have to be coachable and actually follow what your coach says before judging the program.

Questions answered

Can you lose weight in perimenopause by eating more?

Angela did. At 51 and still in perimenopause, she went from eating 1,200 to 1,600 calories to an average of 400 to 500 more a day, and after an initial adjustment the scale and her inches started coming down, with about 20 pounds lost overall.

Why wasn't working out 12 times a week helping her lose weight?

Angela was teaching and attending up to 14 mostly HIIT-style classes a week with no time to recover. She and her coach believe that constant go-go-go training contributed to her inflammation and puffiness and kept her muscles from rebuilding.

How long does it take to get used to tracking macros?

Angela says it took her a good three to four weeks to really get it down, with some frustrating days early on. Now she logs as she goes and has a good sense of where she'll end up for the day.

How did Angela change her strength training?

She cut back on classes, started with three days a week of heavy weight training and moved up to four, kept about three short HIIT classes, and began timing rest between sets in the Trainerize app, which she believes is why she got stronger and her muscles filled out.

How did Angela handle the idea of a 90-day quick fix?

She says it probably took more than 90 days to get where you are, so it will take more than 90 days to get out. She asks whether a diet, pill or fad is something you could live with for the rest of your life, and if not, not to waste your time.

Full transcript

Angela: I was severely depressed. I no longer wanted to be around people. I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin.

Nikkiey: Hey, what's going on, you guys? Welcome back to The WarriorBabe Show with Nikkiey Stott, co-founder of WarriorBabe. On this podcast, we talk about mindset, methodologies, and tactics that will help you lose body fat, build muscle, be strong, and feel insanely confident.

I am your host, Nikkiey Stott, and welcome to today's episode, episode number 231. Today you guys are going to hear another incredible WarriorBabe journey. This is WarriorBabe Angela. She lost over 20 pounds, 8 inches. She stayed committed for nearly 300 days straight. And most importantly, she has found her smile, her strength, and her purpose again.

That's after battling some of her darkest days and lowest times, and even some suicidal thoughts. Depression, anxiety, weight gain, all of that left her feeling that way as she entered perimenopause. So for those of you who feel like you're in that position right now, or you are navigating a situation in your life that is uncomfortable, maybe this episode will be able to help you. I hope it does. If you ever feel like you're in a dark place, this episode is here to remind you that there's always a way forward.

Let's dive in. Well, with that opening, I've read through your story, and I'm so excited for you to be here and to share how you've transformed yourself in more ways than just your body, but also in your mindset. I want the audience to know, what was your situation before you joined WarriorBabe?

Angela: About six to eight months prior to joining, I was struggling physically and mostly mentally.

I knew my body was going through changes, perimenopause. I'm not quite in menopause yet. But I was severely depressed and had severe anxiety. I'm a people person. I've been in the fitness industry for about 15 years. Everybody had known me as the Energizer Bunny. I lost that, and I no longer wanted to be around people.

I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin. I was going through a lot of depression and suicidal thoughts. There was no reason to be suicidal. But there were many moments when I thought I could just drive my truck off a bridge, or I don't have to show up today. Every day, I didn't know if I was going to wake up, and this is going to make me cry now, happy or sad, and at the drop of a hat it could change. So that's when I knew that I needed to find something to basically save me, because it was scary. I'd never been through that my whole life. So that's what I was going through prior to calling you guys.

Nikkiey: Wow. Thank you for sharing that. I know that is pretty vulnerable to put out there, and I appreciate you sharing it, because I know somebody else is going to be listening to this, and maybe they feel the exact same way. What exactly during that time was triggering you to feel that way?

Angela: I believe it was perimenopause, the hormone changes.

I guess I should back up. Even though I was exercising 12, 13 times a week, I was doing classes, I was doing, you name it, I was doing it. I was not eating perfect, but I've never really struggled with bad eating. But I was gaining weight, and I had this soft cellulite all over my body that had never been there before. And I kept getting tests to see what my estrogen levels and hormone levels were, where I was at. We did discover my estrogen was really, really high, which for my age should be low. So I know that hormones were also playing a part in this, which again is the perimenopause.

Nikkiey: So you mentioned these things like perimenopausal depression and anxiety, and even those suicidal thoughts. You were the Energizer Bunny, you were the people person, and you slipped into those feelings. What was the turning point that made you say, I need help?

Angela: Because I was scared. I was really, really scared. We also run a fishing lodge in the summertime. There were times when I was lying in bed and I didn't want to get up to go greet my guests or see my guests. And the guests are my life. I've been doing it for 30-some years. There were so many deep, dark thoughts.

At the end of that summer, I went into the fall and it just progressively got worse and worse and worse. My husband, bless his heart, was working with me as much as he could, but I felt bad. Like I said, I'd be angry, sad, didn't want to get out of bed, didn't want to be around people. And basically the turning point was, I kept seeing your stuff on Facebook and Instagram about perimenopause. I'm so in tune with my body and my feelings that I knew there was something going on. I must have seen your ad a million times. And finally I'm like, I'm just going to break down and call her. I'm just going to see what happens. January came and I kept putting it off because I was scared. And then I think it was the first of February, I finally broke down and contacted you guys and said, I need help.

Nikkiey: I can't wait to dive in. I'm also going to ask you some things around that initial interaction when you first started WarriorBabe, and then we'll dive into your successes, because as I shared at the beginning, you have had some incredible successes, as you shared in the application before we hopped on this call. But before we dive into that, you mentioned that you were working out 12, 13 times a week. How did you feel physically during this time? Did you feel like your body felt different due to the hormonal changes? Were you gaining weight? And let me backtrack one question. How old are you?

Angela: I'm 51.

Nikkiey: Did you hear that? 51. So we're still in perimenopause, correct?

Angela: Yes. The longest I've gone without a cycle is like four months, and then all of a sudden I'll have a cycle again. So I'm still considered peri.

Nikkiey: Got it. Fun times. You've got to love that, right? You're like, oh, it's not here, I'll wait. Shit, it's here. So were you noticing any changes in your body prior, during that time?

Angela: Yeah. Just a lot of puffiness. Even though I was working out, it didn't seem like I was building the muscle, and I was just retaining. So it looked like I was really puffy and retaining fluid. Really that cellulite look, dimply. And I couldn't understand where that was coming from, because I'm not eating a bad diet. I'm not eating friggin' cheeseburgers and pizza every day. What is happening? Why am I continuing to get this look? And I was just starting to go, well, I guess this is 51.

This is 50. This is what I guess we look like now. But I didn't want to settle with that. I wasn't ready to settle with that.

Nikkiey: I love that. A lot of women do settle with it, or their doctors say, oh, you're moving into menopause, it's time to accept your age, this is just what happens.

Angela: Yes. And I even hear that in the classes that I teach. A lot of the women are between 30 and 50, and everybody's just like, oh, this is just getting older.

Oh, this is just the way it is now. And I'm like, no, no.

Nikkiey: Love your mindset. By the way, if you guys aren't watching this on video, please check out Angela's biceps right now. Give them a flex, Angela. They look so good. Look at that. Let's go. Were those arms like that prior to WarriorBabe? Were they that defined?

Angela: No, not at all. Biceps have definitely been one of my stronger points, because I competed about seven, eight years ago. But they were never this full. I could cardio out and lean out and get tiny, but I never had full muscles like I do now. And one of the things I said when I was talking to the lady who was interviewing me for starting the program was, I just want to have arms like Nikkiey.

Nikkiey: Oh girl, you do. They look good.

Angela: I would love to have a picture next to you, both doing a flex.

Nikkiey: That'll happen one day. Okay. Eating is always a really big struggle for women when they're first getting into fitness, and you've been in fitness for a while, as you mentioned. You said you didn't have a bad diet. What did your diet consist of on a day-to-day basis?

Angela: It's actually a lot of the same as what I eat now. I would have egg whites in the morning with sometimes an egg yolk.

Then I would have either oatmeal or toast. A couple hours later I'd have a protein shake or protein bar. And for lunch it was normally rice and chicken, which is a lot of what I eat now. But what I didn't do then that I am doing now is, you guys taught me macros. I've known what macros are, obviously, because of fitness and competing, but I always just did what they told me to do.

I'd hire a nutrition coach and they'd tell me to eat this, but I never really learned about macros and how to implement them into my diet, not my diet, my lifestyle. I never learned about them, and I've learned so, so much. And what is nice is that this is a lifestyle, you guys. This isn't a diet. It's a lifestyle, and you can still implement the foods that you like.

As long as you put it together with your macros. MyFitnessPal has literally saved my life. I've had it before, but I've never been consistent. I think I'm on 309 days. And I'm telling you, even at Christmas and Christmas Eve, when I had 30 people, I inputted everything, whether it was good or bad. I inputted it to see where I was.

So the foods I eat are pretty close to what I was eating before, but clearly I was not getting enough. Believe it or not, I've always been pretty good about the protein. But my carbs weren't always correct. I'd either be under or way over. So I think just learning how to implement the macros into the five or six meals a day I try to eat, learning the percentages and how to always have the protein and carbs, and obviously everybody's different on their numbers, but just learning how to do that has made a huge difference in my transformation.

Nikkiey: I love to hear that. Macros is a whole other world. I can totally resonate with being told, here's your meal plan, follow that meal plan: chicken, broccoli, rice, tilapia, the bodybuilding kind of world.

Angela: Yeah.

Nikkiey: And if you follow it blindly and you're not curious about what you're eating and how much you're consuming, like you just mentioned, you don't really know it. But then you got to WarriorBabe, and you were taught macros, what they are and how much you're eating on a daily basis.

Angela: Exactly where it's all coming from. And more carbs. I've made this huge transformation eating an average of 400 to 500 calories more a day.

Nikkiey: Wait a second. Can you say that one more time? How much more food are you eating?

Angela: 400 to 500 calories more a day on average. Yes.

Nikkiey: And you're 51 and you're going through perimenopause.

Angela: Yeah.

Nikkiey: Okay. And how's your mindset on that? Because a lot of women, when they first start, are always taken aback. The majority of our babes go through a retrain process. Did you go through that at the beginning?

Angela: Yes. For me, it was more scary mentally. It was like, wait a minute, I've been between 1,200 and 1,600 calories forever. How am I going to 2,000? How am I going to 1,900? And at first, the scale, well, you don't go by the scale. I mean, you need it, but you don't. At first you could tell my body was trying to figure out, what the heck is going on? And then all of a sudden it was just down, down, down, and inches were going down and my body was changing and the inflammation was going away.

Nikkiey: That's awesome. That is so cool to hear. When you first started logging macros, how long did it take you to get comfortable?

Angela: Oh my goodness. I would say it took a good three to four weeks to really get it down. Some days would just get so frustrating. Ideally, obviously, you should be planning your meals ahead. I happen to do a lot of cooking at home throughout the day anyway. I don't necessarily have to meal prep. If I know I'm not going to be around my house, I'll meal prep, but I kind of just cook as I go, or I'll save extra dinner for the next day's lunch. So a lot of times when I'm entering MyFitnessPal, I enter it as the day goes. I don't necessarily do it ahead, but I pretty much know in my head now where I'm at. At the beginning, obviously, I didn't know that.

So I think it took me a little bit to figure that out, because I'd enter it and I'd be short at the end of the day and I'd be like, ah. But now I pretty much know, okay, if you have a banana with your protein shake, this is where you're going to be carb-wise, so this is what you're going to need for the rest of the day to keep you in your macros. That's where it's taught me a lot. And the accountability of MyFitnessPal has been huge for me.

Every night, if I haven't entered by nine o'clock at night, it says you have entered 287 days in a row, don't lose it. And I'll make sure I get in there.

Nikkiey: That is awesome. Now we're getting ahead to the results you've accomplished, but I want to ask one question before I take us back to the start of WarriorBabe. What you just shared about tracking macros, and how now, midday, you can go in and log your whole day and still hit them by the end of the day, compared to the start of your journey, when it was taking three, four weeks to really nail it down and get used to it. How does that make you look at food now?

Angela: I love food. And what I enjoy about learning this is that I don't have to tell myself no, per se.

Because a lot of times if I say I can't have that, then I just want it more. And every time I'm eating, I think of it like, this is fuel. This is fueling my body. This is fueling my energy. This is fueling my emotions, to eat right and feel good. Because if you eat right, you feel good. If you eat like crap, you don't feel good. You might feel good in the moment, but I guarantee you an hour or two later, and that night when you're logging it in, you don't feel good.

Nikkiey: I love that.

Angela: I look at it as, don't make food such a heavy restriction. I see so many people saying, I can't, I can't have it. Well, yes, you can. I had nachos the other night, logged it in, and knew that the next night it was back to chicken. Just don't make it a restriction, because this is a lifestyle.

It's a lifestyle. We all go through changes from our twenties to our thirties, to our forties, to our fifties, sixties. And we have to learn how to make it a lifestyle change and implement it into our day-to-day lives instead of quick fixes. And this is it.

Nikkiey: I love that. It's like a sense of freedom with food now.

Angela: Yes.

Nikkiey: That's awesome. Hey, while you're listening, if you're getting value from this episode, take a moment to tap that review button or share this podcast with a friend. It's a small gesture that goes a long way in helping more women find their way to feeling stronger and more confident in their skin. I appreciate you so much for taking the time to support this show.

Okay. Let's go back to when you started WarriorBabe. What actually made you say yes to the team member you talked to on the call? What made you say, I'm in?

Angela: Well, she was very to the point. Are you ready to commit? Are you ready for this change? And I was 100 percent ready, because I wanted to change where I was mentally. I definitely wanted to change physically, but more mentally than anything. I did not want to be in that place.

Nikkiey: What stood out to you about the mental aspect of WarriorBabe? Because we're known as a fitness company, but I preach the mental side of things on all our community calls.

Angela: What stood out to me was basically her saying that you guys work with women who are in perimenopause and menopause. That's really what took me in. Okay, this program is going to target women who are going through this. They obviously know what they're doing. And I'm just like, I'm ready.

I was 100 percent ready. They asked me, is your husband going to support you? Are you ready to commit? And I knew he would support me no matter what, because he wanted to see better for me also. I was ready to make a change mentally more than physically. I wanted to save my life, because I was scared. I was really, really scared. I've known people who fight suicide and suicidal thoughts, and I never realized it was so friggin' scary.

I'm like, oh my gosh, there are people who go through this every day and don't talk about it, and they don't understand why they're going through it. And I didn't even understand why I was going through it, because I had no reason. I have a good family, a nice house, a job. That's what was scary too. If I had a reason, okay, but I don't even have a reason, and these hormones and everything are taking over, and they are so powerful. So I was ready to commit to make that change.

Nikkiey: And even just having the awareness to recognize that it was the hormones. Everything you said: life is great, work is great, family is great. What we don't recognize internally, because it's not something tangible we can see in front of us, is the hormonal changes we're experiencing.

Angela: That's right. And people think they're just going crazy.

Nikkiey: But that's an amazing awareness to have, that you recognized these hormones were changing, and not everyone does. So I really want to applaud you for that, because that drove you to say, hey, I need to make a change. I need to figure something out. You even said you had become a different person and you wanted to get yourself back. Were you skeptical at all when you joined WarriorBabe?

Angela: No, I was not skeptical. I was ready. Like I said, I had watched your videos, and I think I'd even done a couple of your surveys. I was so ready. And yes, it took me 30, 40, 45 days to finally make the phone call and do it, but I was ready.

Nikkiey: So you're almost a year in. How do you feel about that? You've made some serious progress. Let's talk about that.

Angela: Some serious progress. And all I can say is I can't wait to see exactly where I am a year out, which is literally only a few weeks away. I cannot wait to see what this next year brings me.

Nikkiey: Did you sign up for another year?

Angela: I will be signing up. Yes, I will be signing up for another year, absolutely.

Nikkiey: That's amazing. Who's your coach? Who are you working with?

Angela: Donna.

Nikkiey: Oh my gosh. Shout out to Donna. What a sweetheart.

Angela: She's a sweetheart. Love her so much.

Nikkiey: So let's share with the people. What are some of your top achievements? I've been holding onto that this entire time.

Angela: My very first top achievement is that I'm no longer depressed and I don't have anxiety. All of that has gone away. I have had no signs whatsoever of being suicidal. I'm back to having high energy, just feeling good. Every now and then there are a couple of days where I'll feel a little out of it, but that's just life. Overall, I'm back to being Angie. I'm back to being who I am.

Secondly, obviously, I've dropped right around 20 pounds. I'm fluctuating, but I've dropped right around 20 pounds, and I think almost four inches.

Nikkiey: In what area?

Angela: My biggest drop was my hips and my belly. And the other thing is all my inflammation. We all have cellulite in some areas, that's just the way it is, but I don't have that soft look anymore. It's off my legs. It's off my back. It's off my stomach.

So the 20 pounds, I think it's almost four inches off my hips, and I think three inches or so off my waist. So I've made some huge transformations there. And my muscles are full. My strength has gone up tremendously. And mind you, all of this has happened with less. I train harder when it comes to the lifting.

I've never really lifted heavy, per se. I actually lift heavy now, and I don't work out nearly as much.

Nikkiey: Let's unpack that a little bit, because I go to the gym and I see women who are 45, 55, 65 working out. And it's not my place, yet.

Maybe I'll befriend them and walk up to them. But I see them, and I know they can do more. I know they can challenge themselves a little bit more. Oh, do you have the Success Nutrition Facts behind you? Not me being a little squirrel brain right now.

Angela: I do.

Nikkiey: Squirrel brain. I saw that. So I see women doing that, and I understand they don't know the benefits of it entirely. But what were you doing beforehand, and what are you doing differently now when it comes to strength training?

Angela: Well, honestly, I had kind of dropped specific strength training pretty much since COVID. All I did was teach my classes, and at that time I was teaching nine classes a week and attending my other trainers' classes. So I was doing like 14 classes a week.

In what I call my fit camp classes, we do implement weights, but it's obviously more of a HIIT style, so you're not really pushing heavier. And one of the things I had to commit to, and it was not easy at first, was backing off. One of the things Donna asked me at the beginning was, can you give up some of those classes? Can you give up some of that, and let's implement weight training. We started off with three days a week of weight training, and now I'm at four days.

And I have to tell you, that was one of the hardest things, because I've always been, oh, more, more, more, more is better. But we truly believe that was also the cause of a lot of my inflammation, a lot of my being puffy. My body had no time to recover.

I was constantly in this go, go, go training instead of slowing down, lifting heavy, and focusing on the muscles. I still do about three days of my HIIT cardio, but those are only 35-minute classes. So I've cut back tremendously, which was not easy for me, because for 15 years I used to teach a couple of spin classes and then go teach Body Pump and then do a boot camp class and then be like, okay, tomorrow's another day.

Oh, and let's go run five miles today. So it took a while to get it in my head that more is not necessarily better. Now I look at it as quality.

Another thing that has absolutely saved me is your Trainerize app for my weightlifting programs, because it has forced me, and I love it. I can't imagine going a day without it now. It forced me to rest, because you have to push start on the rest timer in between your sets. I never did that before. I was just like, boom, boom, boom, boom. And I truly believe forcing myself to rest has also enabled me to become stronger.

I can lift more because I'm actually letting my body rest. I truly believe that's why I've seen the transformation in my muscles, and the fullness I actually have. They can actually build now. Before, I was just tearing them down all the time. They were never rebuilding.

Nikkiey: Yes, exactly. You're tearing them down inside the gym, and then you rebuild them afterwards.

Angela: Yes.

Nikkiey: With the rest and the right nutrition.

Angela: With the rest. Exactly.

Nikkiey: So that's huge. Less is more. You're doing way less than what you were doing and you're seeing more results.

Angela: Yes.

Nikkiey: Wow. So when you look back and see how far you've come, how does it feel?

Angela: It's amazing to me. I'm in awe and shock every time I look back.

And I fear going back there. I don't ever want to go back there. So I just have to keep moving forward every day. You do have to work on this every single day. You've got to keep going and keep reminding yourself it's a lifestyle. I feel amazing and better this way. It's almost emotional to look back, because I can hardly believe it. But at the same time, I want people to understand that in my first 60 days, I was like, oh, I wonder if this is really going to work. And you have to trust the process. Absolutely. You have to trust the process and just keep going, because it does take time. It took time to get there, and it's going to take time to get where I want to go.

So you just trust the process, is all I can say.

Nikkiey: Amen. It's January, and people are looking for the next quick fix at the beginning of the year. They're trying to cut out carbs or they're trying to get results within 90 days. What would you say to that woman? You kind of just said it, but how would you encourage her to shift that mindset?

Angela: I would tell her that she needs to trust the process, and it's going to take longer than 90 days, because it probably took more than 90 days to get where you are today. If you're signing up for something like this or wanting to change, it probably took more than 90 days to get there, so it's going to take more than 90 days to get out of there. So I just say, trust the process.

And also, you don't want a quick fix. You don't want to start losing weight too fast. There are so many things out there that I see, and I'm like, it's not a lifestyle. I always remind people, can you do this for the rest of your life? Is this something you've signed up for that you can do for the rest of your life? Is this diet pill, this crazy diet, all the fad diets, something you can live with for the rest of your life?

Because you can see the change. It's going to work for you for 30, 60, 90 days, but let's talk to you a year from now. Is it something you can live with? Because if it's not something you can live with, don't even waste your time. So I just say, trust the process, and this is a lifestyle change. And this program is absolutely lifestyle. There's no diet about it. There are no fads about it. It's how to implement it into your life so you can live.

Nikkiey: I love that. What's it like working with a coach?

Angela: I love the accountability with a coach, having those weekly check-in forms. A lot of times you can tell me what to eat, you can tell me what to do, and I will do it. But the accountability has been huge, because I'll have a down week, or just feel a little bit down, and I fill out one of those forms and get my response from her, and it's like, oh, I feel so much better. This is life. And we have our daily chats with our group, and you can see that other women are going through it too. This last week, for a lot of women, for whatever reason, and I'm blaming it on the full moon...

Nikkiey: I knew that's where you were going with it.

Angela: For whatever reason, it was just a down week. So then it kind of makes you feel good. Oh, I'm not alone here. I'm not the only one feeling this way. Look at all these other women feeling this way also. So the accountability of my coach and her support has been incredible. I love her so much. Someday I'm going to get across to the East Coast and meet all of you guys in person.

Nikkiey: Let's go. It's already done. We'll make it happen. Thank you so much for sharing your story and the transformation you've made, not just in your body, but also in your mind. For somebody watching this right now who is unsure about taking the next step, what would you tell them about WarriorBabe and the impact it could have on their life?

Angela: I would tell them not to hesitate. I guarantee it will be life-changing in many ways. And I know one of the things that holds people back is cost. But let me tell you, when you break it down into a daily cost, a monthly cost, compared to what you spend on junk food or coffees or whatever else your vice might be, I can guarantee you will find that you can afford it. Or actually, I should say, for me, there's just no price tag on my life. I don't care how much it costs me.

It saved my life. That's my big thing. Yes, there's a cost to it. There's money to it. But I can't even put a price tag on it, because it saved me. So it's worth every friggin' dime, plus more.

Nikkiey: Oh man. Plus more. I felt that. What would you say to someone who is specifically struggling with perimenopause like you were and feeling like they've lost themselves?

Angela: Once again, not to hesitate to sign up, and to trust the process. Like I said, your program has saved me, and it tailors toward women who are going through these stages in life that we don't understand. Nothing makes sense. Nothing. How you eat, what you're doing. Especially for women who are completely in tune with their body and all of a sudden experience this and are just like, what is happening? And then again, for the women who just go through life thinking that this is the way it is. No, it's not the way it is. We just have to learn about our bodies and what's going on and how we can combat that in a positive way.

Nikkiey: Oh man. I love that so much. One of the last questions: what do you feel is the biggest difference between WarriorBabe and the other programs out there? Because a lot of women say, I've tried everything and nothing has worked.

Angela: I've hired a couple of different fitness coaches. I've been on different programs. And I would say your support is like no other. There are so many avenues you guys support, and the accountability and the support is the main difference, I think. Making us accountable with MyFitnessPal, the accountability of the Trainerize app, and you guys are constantly changing it. There are programs where I'd be on the same program for six months. With you guys, every four weeks my program is changing.

So you guys are constantly challenging us and changing it. You have your weekly check-in forms, you have your one-on-one once a month. Those are huge. The main thing is your support system rocks. And I see you speak, and I'm just like, oh my God, that girl just touches my heart. The support system you guys have is incredible. Not to mention the knowledge your entire team has.

What you guys have taught me is like no other. Like I said, I've gotten tons of, here, eat this, but I've never really been taught. Here's how you break down your protein, your carbs. Here's the calories I want you at. So, yeah. You guys are amazing.

Nikkiey: That's awesome, Angela. I love that. Thank you for sharing that. It's the why behind it, right? Along with the support, it's why you're doing what you're doing on a daily basis, so you can gain this knowledge. And what we always say to the coaches is, we don't want you guys to be with us forever. As much as we would love that, we want you to learn the things so you can go off and trust yourself to do these things by yourself.

Angela: Yes, absolutely. It's training us. And honestly, I could walk away at the end of this year and probably figure this out, but I'm not ready for that.

I still feel that I need support and accountability. Sorry. I still feel that I need that. And I want to see what another year's transformation does.

Nikkiey: Shoot, there are still four that I've coached for the last five years who I swear will never leave me.

There are babes who stay with us for three, four years for that exact reason. The accountability and the support go such a long way. Knowing that you have to check in with Donna on Friday, you made a promise to her, which makes it a promise to you. Well, Angela, thank you so much. Thank you for your story. It was such a powerful story. I think it's going to go really deep with a lot of people who listen to this. I know there are women struggling out there who are having the same challenges you've experienced.

So I appreciate you so much for sharing your story and the insights you've had for yourself, where you were at the beginning and where you are now, which is so cool. And you've done the work. I always talk about how it's a two-way street when you're working with a coach. You can't be 20 percent and the coach is 80 percent. It's a 50/50 partnership between the two of you. They show up, you show up.

Angela: Absolutely. And that was one thing you guys asked when I did the interview for signing up for the program: are you coachable? Will you listen? Because I can't be mad at you or dis your program if I didn't follow what you guys said. I've even had that with clients I get frustrated with, because it's like, are you doing what your coach said? Because if you're not, you can't be mad at the coach. So again, my biggest thing is don't hesitate to be a WarriorBabe, and trust the process.

Nikkiey: Yes. On that note, anyone who is interested and wants to become a WarriorBabe and have an amazing journey just like Angela has had, check out the links in the description below.
