How to Lose Weight Without Extreme Dieting After 40
Chapters
In this episode
Amy was thin before kids. Then she put everyone else first, reached 226 pounds and stopped letting anyone take her picture. She lost 60 pounds in a year by barely eating and gained it back. She tried a doctor's supplement and B12 shot protocol, appetite suppressants, a roughly 1,000-calorie plan and six months of full-body electric muscle stimulation. She says the under-eating wrecked her thyroid, and at one point she decided she was just meant to be fat. What finally pushed her to change was feeling that her husband of over 30 years couldn't possibly love her, because she didn't love herself.
In this episode Amy tells Nikkiey Stott what changed once she joined WarriorBabe. In her first four weeks, her coach Sarah kept increasing her food while the scale kept going down, until they found her maintenance. She went on to lose 30 pounds and 17% body fat. She now plans her macros the night before, eats the same meals on repeat, and is in her first build, eating more to get stronger. She can now clean and press 55 pounds, after once struggling to military press an empty bar.
Amy also talks about the cost of coaching, working with an all-or-nothing personality, enjoying a wedding without guilt, and why accountability keeps her signing up again. If you keep losing and regaining the same weight, her story shows what changes when you stop starving yourself and start building strength.
Key takeaways
- When you have been under-eating, the first step may be eating more: Amy's coach raised her food repeatedly in the first four weeks while the scale still went down, until they found her maintenance.
- Plan tomorrow's food the night before, starting with dinner and filling in the rest of the day, so you don't end the day with macros left over or with nothing left for dinner.
- Rotating a handful of go-to meals takes the mental load out of planning and makes hitting your macros easier.
- Amy sees her body fat percentage as a bigger win than the pounds lost, because the goal is building muscle, not being a pencil.
- Weighing yourself daily works when you expect the number to go up and down; after a wedding weekend Amy's scale spiked and came back down.
- Set strength goals rather than numerical scale goals, and don't add weight too fast; Amy had to back off her bench press after progressing too quickly.
- A supportive partner who agrees to get cake whenever you quit is not the same as a coach who gives you tough love and asks why.
- Community calls are optional; if live calls make you anxious, you can watch the recordings later and still get the benefit.
Questions answered
Can you lose weight while eating more food?
In Amy's experience, yes. In her first four weeks her coach kept increasing her food while the scale kept going down, and they had to keep adding food until the scale stopped dropping so they could find her maintenance.
What is a build phase?
Nikkiey explains that in a build you are eating more and putting on weight on purpose. Amy is in her first build because she wants to be strong rather than skinny, and she now clean and presses 55 pounds.
How do you plan macros ahead of time?
Amy sits down after dinner the night before, decides what dinner will be the next day, then plans the rest of the day around it. Early on she planned a full week at a time, and she eats many of the same meals on repeat to keep it simple.
Is WarriorBabe coaching worth the money?
Amy says money was her only hesitation, and the program is a one-year commitment. She now says it is worth it, because she had already spent a lot on a supplement doctor and neuromuscular stimulation that didn't work.
Do you have to join community calls in WarriorBabe?
No. Amy says live calls make her anxious, so she watches the recordings later instead, and Nikkiey encourages members to make it work for them.
Full transcript
Amy: I had always been really thin before I had children. And then I was just mom and I didn't pay any attention to me. At some point I got to 226 pounds, and I saw a picture of myself and couldn't believe that was me. At one point I went to a doctor and they were giving me supplements and B12 shots, and I was barely eating, and I ended up killing my thyroid.
Nikkiey: What was the moment that you realized that, okay, something needed to change?
Amy: I think I started feeling like he was going to leave me, that he couldn't possibly love this. I thought, well, maybe I need therapy, because he was like, no, I love you. And I was like, well, we need to go to couples therapy, or I need to go to therapy so that I could love me again.
Nikkiey: What's going on, everybody? I have another WarriorBabe here with us, and I'm really excited to chat with Amy. Amy's story is pretty unique. She's one that almost gave up after years of extreme dieting and appetite suppressants and starving herself thin, only to then rebound. She was convinced that maybe she was just meant to be fat, but she refused to settle. I think that's what's really cool about her story. She's going to be here talking about it with us, because she's now 30 pounds lighter, she's down 17% body fat, and she's stronger and more confident than ever. So just think about what I just said, and then hear that transformation. We're going to get into that story. Amy, welcome.
Amy: Hi. It's so good to talk to you.
Nikkiey: Likewise. Okay, so let's chat about where you were physically and mentally before you found WarriorBabe. Take us back to that version of you.
Amy: Well, like you said, it was a long journey of gaining weight and losing weight. I had always been really thin before I had children. And then I was just mom and I didn't pay any attention to me. At some point I got to 226 pounds, and I saw a picture of myself and couldn't believe that was me. I just wasn't paying attention. I mean, I knew I was heavy. I knew I was tired. But I didn't know I was that big.
And then I did it the wrong way. I lost 60 pounds in one year and I looked really good, but that wasn't sustainable. And then I just kept gaining it back and losing it and gaining it back. It's just the roller coaster, and a lot of that all or nothing that you talk about.
Nikkiey: Yes. For sure.
Amy: And at one point I went to a doctor, and they were giving me supplements and B12 shots, and I was barely eating, and I ended up killing my thyroid. Literally, my thyroid stopped working. I already had Hashimoto's, but it literally killed my thyroid. And I was bruising. If you touched me, I would have a bruise. It was horrible. And of course that's upsetting, so you just give up again. Like, well, then forget it. I'm just going to eat what I want and I'm going to be fat, and that's going to be that. Which of course, a few months into that, that's not okay. You don't feel good in your skin, and you feel like your husband doesn't find you attractive, although he's super supportive and never said anything.
Nikkiey: Yeah. I hear you. I feel like you've lived in both realms, right? From being thin, which a lot of people struggle with, to then having a body that they want. It's usually skinny fat at that point. But then you were on the other end of the spectrum, where you were overweight after having the kiddos and taking care of them, putting them first and not paying attention to your health. And then you tried to get a grip on it, and it was just misinformation that was sent your way, or the support that you had wasn't necessarily the knowledge and the information that you needed to successfully lose the weight. And it was just this hamster wheel, which, being a WarriorBabe now, you know you're not alone in that at all. Everybody goes on that hamster wheel of losing the same weight over and over and over again.
It's crazy what doctors will prescribe and put you on. It's not, let's fix the root cause. It's, let's put a mask on the symptoms and not fix the root cause. It's just, here's this supplement, here's that supplement. I'm curious about that. Was there any guidance like, hey, here's a nutrition recommendation or protocol that I would suggest that you do? Or was there any strength training?
Amy: They gave me a map of what to eat, but it was very limited. They didn't call it keto, but it was very keto. It was, eat this many proteins, this many vegetables. But it was probably a thousand calories total. Maybe it was two ounces of chicken and a half a cup of blueberries. Now I know that was definitely not enough food. And of course, I was raised in the whole Weight Watchers, fat is bad. Everything I ate was nonfat, nonfat. I didn't eat anything that had fat in it. Now I have avocado every day.
Nikkiey: Yes. I love that. While we're there mentally, on the extreme plans that you tried in the past, like the appetite suppressants and everything like that, what did that do for your mindset and for your motivation at that time and over time?
Amy: Well, obviously, when you're on the appetite suppressants, you feel great as far as you're losing weight. It's like, oh, it's working, I'm losing all this weight. But then you don't physically feel well. My digestion was messed up. I had dry mouth like you would not believe from these supplements. And she was like, oh, here are these dental lozenges. I can't say it. Lozenges.
Nikkiey: Lozenges. Yeah.
Amy: Yeah. Because you have dry mouth from the medication I'm giving you. Not, oh, maybe you shouldn't be taking that. And my thyroid doctor at the time just kept telling me, eat less. Your thyroid's fine. You should eat less. You need to eat less. Every time I went to see him, he would tell me I should eat less. And I was like, I'm not eating. I don't understand. I'm on appetite suppressants. Well, I'll say that 10 times fast.
Nikkiey: We know, right? You're not eating at that point, and they know that, and they're telling you to eat less. That's crazy. And now, from what you've learned at WarriorBabe, you know that's only going to downregulate your thyroid even more and crash and burn. Now you're going to have to be on thyroid medication for the rest of your life. Gosh, that's crazy.
On that note, you mentioned that at one point you were like, I'm just meant to be fat. What was it like to carry that belief?
Amy: I just gave up. I just gave up. I want to say it was draining or whatever, but it was a point of, I don't care. This is me. But then eventually you're like, I care. I can't pretend I don't care. You can shut it off for a while, but it gets to you.
I was trying to find pictures of myself, and there are no pictures of just me through those time periods, because I would not allow people to take them. And my husband's a photographer. He takes pictures all the time, not professionally, but I was just like, don't you dare take a picture of me. There are pictures of me with my kids at events, because, okay, it's a kid's graduation, I'm going to take that picture. But there are no pictures of me by myself, because I hated the way I looked. And if people posted pictures of me on Facebook, I'd be like, please untag me. I can't see that picture.
Nikkiey: What was it like to carry those types of emotions in your day to day? How did those emotions and feelings affect, like you mentioned earlier, your relationship with your husband, who once said he loved your confidence? Can you share a little bit about how that affected your day to day back then?
Amy: Yeah. I would just try to hide and not be that confident person that I always was, and that I am again. It's, you're confident, it's me, I'm here. Whereas back then I would just hide and not want to be seen, and feel like he didn't want to see me. We've been married for over 30 years now, and he's my high school sweetheart.
Nikkiey: Oh, God bless you guys. That's amazing.
Amy: But it was just like, he loved me the same always. And I would be like, you can't possibly love this. And of course he said he did, but I didn't feel like he could. I didn't love me. How could he love me?
Nikkiey: Oh my gosh. I can't imagine how many women are resonating with that right there. The relationship you guys have after 30 years is incredible. I admire that so much. But it's more so coming from your feelings and your emotions. Maybe it feels like the day-to-day relationship is struggling, but it's really because you internally are struggling with yourself at that point. That's an awareness to have. Even though he says those things and he's supporting you, it's coming from you, because you want to feel better. You want to find your confidence. You want to find the love for yourself, which I'm really excited to get to, because I know that you're feeling way better now. But I wanted to talk about that beforehand, because I know there are going to be so many women that resonate with you.
What was the moment that you realized that, okay, something needed to change?
Amy: I think I started feeling like he was going to leave me, that he couldn't possibly love this. I thought, well, maybe I need therapy, because he was like, no, I love you. And I was like, well, we need to go to couples therapy, or I need to go to therapy so that I could love me again. But I don't know if you've ever tried to find a therapist. It's not as easy as it sounds.
Nikkiey: Oh, actually, I'm just going to be transparent, I'm in the works of doing that right now. I was working with a therapist at the beginning of this year and it wasn't working out, so I'm in the process of trying to find one again. So I feel you on that. People are like, just go get therapy, and I'm like, how do you do that? Just find someone that you jive with. That's important.
Amy: Yeah. So who I jived with was this Nikkiey person that kept popping up on my Facebook and on my YouTube, because I did workout videos on YouTube. I was working on myself, but it just wasn't working. I was roller-coastering. I was all or nothing. I would work out like crazy, and then, forget it, I'm not going to do it. So I was on YouTube and on Facebook, and with the algorithms, because I was following fitness people and blah, blah, blah, you kept coming up. And I don't know what it was about you, girl. I just loved your attitude. I liked the way you said things, like how you always say, I'm going to say it again in a different way. However you were saying it, I was like, yes, yes, what she said.
Nikkiey: Oh, I love that. Well, I'm happy that I could have been your therapist in the fitness and health realm. Because truly, with working with your coach, we joke all the time that we should sign our signatures as life coach or therapy coach. We're not just fitness coaches, because we meet you guys where you're at and we help you in every facet. And fitness will transpire into so many aspects of your life, not just your health. So that's cool that that kept coming up. Was there anything specifically that was resonating with you the most, that I was saying, that made you think, okay, I need to check this out more?
Amy: No. And that's funny, because I even asked my husband. I was like, I know she's going to ask me that, and I don't know how to answer that question. Because it was just your overall being, your no BS, I'm just going to say it. Again, it's just the way you said it that resonated with me. And your message, to be strong and confident. Yes, I want to be strong and confident.
Nikkiey: Yes. Yes.

Did you have any fears about joining the program? Were there any hesitations?
Amy: Just the money, to be honest.
Nikkiey: Yeah.
Amy: It's a financial commitment.
Nikkiey: It is.
Amy: But you have to make that commitment to yourself.
Nikkiey: Did you have to have a conversation with the hubby about that? How did that go down? Wait, I love hearing these stories.
Amy: I told him I was checking into it. And then I had the call, and they said it's a year commitment, which I totally get why it's a year commitment, and how much it costs and everything. And I signed up. They were like, can you make that decision? I'm like, yes. And then I called my husband and said, I did this. And I was crying, and I was like, I have to do this. It has to be done. And of course he was like, it's how much? Okay. I mean, you did it already.
Nikkiey: Oh, I love that though. You needed this for yourself, and he's supporting you, even though it's pricey. Everybody says it's a very pricey point. But let me ask you now, being a part of it and being in the program, what does that price point mean to you now?
Amy: I mean, it's worth it. How do you put a price on your health and your confidence? It's definitely worth it. I know it's like, oh, it's a lot. But it's not a lot if you think about it. I've spent a lot of money on that doctor that was giving me supplements. And then I spent a lot of money on neuromuscular stimulation, because that was supposed to be better than working out. They literally put things on you and basically electric shock you. It's like the TENS units they're supposed to use in rehab for injuries. But they put it on your whole body.
Nikkiey: I've actually seen this as a trend on social media, and I am bewildered by it. They're like, don't do lunges and crunches, let us electrocute you. It's fine.

All right, let's get back to the show. That's crazy. When we say it out loud like that, it's just crazy.
Amy: I know. I know. I did it for like six months.
Nikkiey: Oh.
Amy: And I have a very high pain tolerance, FYI, because I set records on how high they could turn that machine up.
Nikkiey: That's crazy, Amy. Oh, wow. Okay. So let's talk about the first couple of weeks of you being in the program and working with your coach. What were some quick wins that you experienced out of the gate, where you realized, hey, I can trust this process?
Amy: Well, I was in the retrain, and I was eating more, because I had been trying to lose weight leading up to that, of course. So I was not eating. And I was listening to your podcast, so I was putting protein in my diet, and I added avocado, and I was trying to eat more, but I still wasn't eating enough, obviously. And I was working out. But when Sarah gave me my macros, she was like, we're going to go up. You're going to eat a little more. You're going to eat a little more. Okay, don't hate me, you're going to eat a little more. In the first four weeks, it was eat more, eat more, eat more. But the scale was going down. I was eating more and the scale would go down. I'd eat more and the scale would go down. And she'd go, we need a little more. We literally need the scale to stop going down right now. We need to find your maintenance. And it just continued on that trend.
Nikkiey: Let me ask you, what was going through your mind when Sarah was increasing the food? It was more food, more food. It's all fine and dandy, and it sounds amazing because you're losing the weight, but you were hearing more food. Was there any skepticism, like, I'm only going to gain more weight with that?
Amy: Oh no. Oh no. Because I had been listening to The WarriorBabe Show, and I watched the recordings. Literally that first month, I work from home, so I would have you on my laptop on the side, just all of your videos running. When I would walk, I'd have it on. You were brainwashing me.
Nikkiey: Oh, I love that. You came in knowing what you were going to be doing.
Amy: Yeah. Well, I am all or nothing. So I was very committed, sometimes to a fault, but very committed. I wanted to know everything Nikkiey had to say.
Nikkiey: That's hilarious. How are you doing now with that all-or-nothing mindset?
Amy: Sarah has helped me a lot with letting go and being able to have things. I just had a wedding in Georgia two weekends ago, and I was able to go and enjoy it and not feel like, oh, I can't have that. You have to be able to take a break from it and know it's okay. When you come back, the scale spikes, but it goes back down. It's fine.
Nikkiey: Amazing. How much food did you get up to when you were doing the retrain?
Amy: I don't really remember the retrain, because it was two years ago. But I'm in a build right now, which is amazing. It's amazing for me to say that I am literally trying to gain weight right now, looking back at that person that was—
Nikkiey: Let's just unpack that for a second, because people are going to be listening to this, and nobody knows what a build is. They hear that and they're like, I don't know what that means, unless they've been listening to The WarriorBabe Show and the WarriorBabe stories. But basically you're eating and you're putting on weight. So mentally, how is that being processed for you right now?
Amy: That is such a big mind shift for me, obviously. I just always wanted to lose, lose, lose. I can't eat. I can't eat. I need to lose. And I told my coach I wanted to build, and she was skeptical. Are you sure? Because this is what's going to happen. Are you going to be okay with that? Because I weigh myself every day. But I weigh myself every day knowing that it's going to go up and down. That's what we're here for. And I told her, no, I want to be stronger. I don't want to be skinny. I want to be strong. That's my mind shift.
So we're in a build and it's going great, and I'm strong. The other day I told my husband I was doing a clean and press with 55 pounds, which doesn't sound like a lot to some people, but I used to do a military press with an empty bar and struggle. So for me, I'm like, yes, look what I'm doing. Of course he puts more weight on and does it next to me, and I'm like, shut up.
Nikkiey: But you can't compare yourself to the men, to the husband.
Amy: I know.
Nikkiey: Girl, that's incredible. You should feel proud of yourself, of where you are now, how far you've come and the transformation that you've made. And that's something I want to chat through now. Let's talk about those wins: the weight down, the percent down, the strength that you're experiencing. What are some of your top achievements that you've accomplished so far as a WarriorBabe?
Amy: Well, honestly, I want to say my top achievement is the strength, being able to press 55 pounds over my head.
Nikkiey: Yes.
Amy: Of course I went through the cut and got down and lost all that weight. The body fat percentage, I think, is bigger than the pounds. Of course, again, we're trying to build muscle and not be a pencil.
Nikkiey: The WarriorBabe Show really brainwashed you, and I love it.
Amy: Yes.
Nikkiey: It really shaped your expectations for being a WarriorBabe.
Amy: I mean, I've always been a strong woman, strong and confident. And that's what my husband said, I loved your confidence. I've never believed in the guys can do it and girls can't, or different standards for women. I'm strong. If my husband needs to move cement, I'm out there moving it. I can do it. Sometimes to a fault. I would try to do stuff I shouldn't have been doing. Now I'm a little stronger, so I can, but I still would just be like, I got it, I got it.
Nikkiey: Yes. I love that.
Amy: Yeah.
Nikkiey: So the percentage down is huge, though. We're focusing on building muscle, and I love that you're in a build right now. If you hadn't found WarriorBabe, where do you think you would be right now?
Amy: I probably would have still been on that roller coaster. I was a January baby. When the holidays were over, I'd be like, okay, I'm going to do it again. This is my year. And then by June, things go sideways and I'm gaining weight again, and forget it. It was a roller coaster for years and years, and I don't think I would have gotten off that ride if I hadn't found a true solution. You've got to get stronger.
And I used MyFitnessPal when I lost my 60 pounds initially, way back in 2014. Tracking food. That's how I did it, but I didn't eat enough, so then I gained it back. I'm like, give me knowledge, give me knowledge, which is how I found you. But there's a lot of misinformation out there, for sure. So you've got to be careful who you're listening to.
Nikkiey: Yeah, I love that you're bringing that up. I think it's important to highlight. I have a question. You obviously knew what tracking and macros were when you heard about WarriorBabe and came into the program. How do you track every day now? You've heard me say that WarriorBabes come in and they're tracking as they go throughout the day, because they haven't learned pre-planning or pre-logging in MyFitnessPal. So they go the whole day logging their food, and then by the end of the day they still have 40 grams of carbs left, or 20 grams of protein left. I call it macro hoarding at the end of the day. And you've heard me say it's ideal to plan the night before. You mentioned you're two years in now with WarriorBabe, so obviously you've developed a lot of skill sets along the way to make yourself successful during the week and during the day. What does that look like for you now, the way that you pre-plan and log your food?
Amy: Well, before WarriorBabe, I definitely was that person that would just track it and think, this is what I think I should eat today. And then after dinner I'd be like, oh, I need to eat something because I didn't eat enough. Or it became dinner time and I didn't have any calories left to eat, and it was like, oh, I'm going to have to go over, because I have to eat.
I have a math brain, so it didn't take me long to figure out the macros. I didn't know about macros before. It was calories. Once I got to listening to you, it was like, okay, macros are what's important. And I changed MyFitnessPal to show the macros, the grams and the percentages. So I learned it pretty quickly. Most days I hit zeros, because I'm just a mathematical person.
Nikkiey: You're one of them, Amy. I used to have a client that did that.
Amy: Perfectionist, where Sarah's like, it doesn't have to be zero. And I'm like, I know, but I can do it.
Nikkiey: That's incredible.
Amy: So I sit the night before and I plan what I'm going to eat the next day. Early on in the program I would do the whole week, but now I pretty much do tomorrow. After dinner, I sit on the couch and say, what do we want to have for dinner tomorrow? Okay, if that's what we're having for dinner, then this is what I'm going to have the rest of the day. And we also eat the same things a lot. My husband is very supportive, and he's like, I don't care. So we eat a lot of the same foods over and over again, which makes it easy to plan. It's just, well, let's have the same thing we had last Thursday.
Nikkiey: It takes that mental thought process out of it. People spend so much time thinking about what they're going to eat for dinner. Sometimes it's good to just have your top five dinners that you can go to and interchange them throughout the weeks.
Amy: And maybe here and there, spontaneously, I want to do something different. But I love just eating the same thing over and over and over again.
Nikkiey: You mentioned a couple of minutes ago the misinformation out there. I'd love to pick your brain on that. What made WarriorBabe feel different from all the other things that you've seen or heard or read about or tried?
Amy: Well, honestly, you have to get it from multiple sources. A few different sources were saying the same kinds of things you were saying, but you were saying it in the way that resonated with me. You had Abby Sharp on a while ago, and I was watching her, and she was saying a lot of the same things. It's like, okay, this is what people are saying. It's not that people are saying the wrong thing. Multiple people say it too. I mean, we went through years of keto and Atkins. There are a lot of misconceptions out there.
Nikkiey: Yeah. Let's talk about goals. You're in your first build right now. What goals are you and your coach working towards together in this build?
Amy: Well, I had set some lifting goals, some strength goals. My bench press was probably my weakest. I tried to add weight too fast, and I was like, okay, I need to back that up. You can't build it up that much every week. But yeah, definitely strength goals and being stronger. I try not to set numerical goals. It's more that I want to feel good and be stronger.
Nikkiey: Yeah. I love it. How has working with your coach been? What does that relationship look like, and how has the support that she's given you made a difference?
Amy: Oh, she's fantastic. That's the biggest thing, having a coach to tell you what to do and what not to do. And like I said, I'm all or nothing, so she's more there to say, hey, I want you to have a weekend. In my case, it's more of a slow down, it's okay. And if I say, oh, I messed up, she's like, no, your body needed that. It's okay that you didn't do it today. You didn't feel like it today. It's okay.
And I did want to say, last year, a little earlier than this time, my coach, who also lives in Florida, and I were both affected by the hurricanes. She had to be off for a bit and take care of her own life, and Coach Mo stepped in, and it was seamless. We all love Coach Mo. She filled in for Sarah and did a great job. It was kind of like, oh great, I'm going through something right now and so is my coach, so I don't have a coach. Well, no, that's not true. Coach Mo stepped in and took care of us so that Sarah could take care of herself. So that's the WarriorBabe community.
Nikkiey: Oh, I love that. I love that you mentioned that. We work together as a team on the back end. We're not going to leave you guys hanging. There's always somebody that's going to step up, just like in the community of babes that you're working with who are with Sarah. I'm sure it's happened in your group chat or on your huddles, that there's always somebody stepping up to help, with whatever anybody is struggling with or whatever anybody needs, offering help and advice. That is that community, for sure, one way or another.
Amy: Yeah. Well, I'm not the kind of person that wants to participate in the community calls. I'm just not a people person. That makes me anxious. But it's a great community. And even if you don't want to be on the calls, you can watch them later. You don't have to be that outgoing person that wants to be part of the call. Honestly, for me that was very much, I can't do that.
Nikkiey: Yeah. Thank you for sharing that, because there are definitely going to be people that are like, I just want to be with my coach, I just want to work out, and I want to know what I need to do on a daily basis. I love that you guys offer that stuff, but it's not really my jam. That's totally understandable. Make it work for you. And as you were mentioning, you watch the recordings, so you don't miss out on it. You like to watch it at a later date. I love that, because there are other people that are totally there with you on that.
Okay, I have one more question. If there's anybody watching this and hearing your story who's feeling like they're stuck, or they're inconsistent, or they're on that hamster wheel losing and gaining and losing and gaining the same weight, what would you want them to know?
Amy: Oh, that's a really hard question. You have to commit for yourself, and don't give up. Don't give up on yourself and think, oh, this is just how life is, like I had done. There are people out there, WarriorBabe is there, that can support you and help you through it. I always thought, well, I have my husband, he's supportive. But he was supportive of whatever I was doing. As soon as I said, screw it, I won't do it anymore, he was like, okay, let's go get cake. Because he thought he was being supportive of whatever I wanted. You need somebody who's going to give you a little push, a little tough love.
Nikkiey: Girl, that's right. Gotta have some tough love.
Amy: Gotta have some, well, why did we do that? How do we feel about that?
Nikkiey: Yeah. And I love that. Don't give up. There's somebody out there that's willing to support you and help you along the way, and that could be WarriorBabe for you guys, if you're listening to this and resonating with Amy's story.
I'll say this as we close it off: it's your story, and what I'm hearing is that it's living proof. There have been tons of WarriorBabes, and not-yet WarriorBabes, who have gone through the hamster wheel, or starving themselves, or avoiding carbs or fats, or chasing perfection, or the all-or-nothing mindset. And I think it's really cool to hear your transformation, because you're not just down the weight. You're not just down the body fat percentage. What I can hear is that you're free from the frustration, free from the shame, free from the doubt that used to hold you back. You're really back to you again, being strong and being confident and having this sense of, I can rest, but I can also perform. And you're doing it with intention, rather than striving to get to some end goal, which I think is really cool from what I'm hearing in your story. So you should be really proud of your journey. It's cool to know where you were before and where you are now.
How much longer are you with WarriorBabe? How many more years have you signed up for?
Amy: It ends in February, and I haven't come to terms with that yet.
Nikkiey: Yeah. That's a very hard one.
Amy: So last year I was like, oh, I'm going to do it one year. I'm going to do it one year. And then around this time I was like, I don't know what I'm going to do when I don't have Sarah anymore. Although I was confident and I knew stuff, I just didn't think I was ready to step away. So then I was like, oh, I'll do six more months. Okay, well, actually I'll do a whole year. And then once we got into the year, we talked about my goals, and I was like, well, I would really like to do a build with you. I want to build, which again was a huge mind shift for me, to want to build. Because I need to have her with me to do that. So now I'm going to build, and I'm like, okay, but after the build I've got to do a cut again. And then I really have to get to maintenance before I can stop having you hold my hand.
Nikkiey: Yeah. Maybe February will turn into another year. We'll see.
Amy: I know. That coach, it's a great relationship.
Nikkiey: Right. It's more than just, okay, I have the confidence to do things. It's the accountability and the support that you get from the coach that helps you along the way. I'm sure you know Cheryl B's story. She was with me for five years, and we went through multiple builds and cuts until she finally was like, all right, I've got this and I can do it. So that's so true. It's at your comfort level, when you feel like you've graduated and you can do it yourself.
Amy: Right. I mean, I'm here. I've got the resources. She's definitely given me the resources, and I have the knowledge, and I have all these workout plans that I could just keep doing over and over again. Do this eight weeks, then do this eight weeks. But the accountability is really, you know.
Nikkiey: Yeah. Girl, I hear you. I hear you. So many WarriorBabes have said that exact same thing. So maybe February will turn into another year. We'll see.
